The Polar RCX5 heart rate monitor displays wide array of data including average heart rate, average speed, average cadence, cadence, calories, calories per hour, countdown timer, distance, heart rate, lap distance, lap time, max speed, speed (pace), stopwatch, time of day, trip, zone pointer (bar graph - realtime - of time spent in each one of 5 sports zones). The way the data is displayed can be arranged by the user according to the personal preference. The monitor has also a very handy feature of changing the display by bringing it near to the chest strap. The fitness test function quickly measures the user’s aerobic fitness and oxygen uptake. The 5 sport zones are based on the HR percentage and guide the user to train at the right intensity. It is also possible to set the zones according to one’s current condition. The age based target zone is set automatically based on user’s age. The monitor features also a handy Race Pace functionality, which helps the user plan the race strategy by setting a certain amount of time for a specified distance.
The monitor stores up to 99 training files with summaries and provides the user with weekly history. It also stores the data from the last reset to deliver the possibility of long term training analysis. The Training Load function available online provides a colour-coded graph of a user’s training load indicating possible improvements to the training routine and modify it if necessary.
The monitor is compatible with other additional Polar accessories and communicates with Mac and PC. It is supplied with WearLink Hybrid strap with transmitter and DataLink unit. The device weighs 46g. The battery life is estimated for 8-11 months.
